Cleo's Gone

The vet called at 8:10 this morning and said she'd gotten worse. She was unresponsive, and after having a fever, her temperature now was actually below normal. He said it was now over and it was really only a matter of whether or not we wanted to euthanize or let her go on her own. Angie had to work, but I went in to say goodbye when they put her to sleep. When he brought her out, it looked like she was already gone. Her eyes stared into space, and except for her breathing, she didn't move. He layed her on her side on the table, wrapped up in a pink towel. I scratched behind her ears while he gave her the injection. I don't know if she could feel me scratching, or if she was even aware I was there. As her breathing and heart slowed her pupils opened up. She was gone in about five minutes. Our poor kitty is gone...
