Surgeries

Dad had last brain surgery on Tuesday. Went even better than the first one. A bit shorter, less prodding around. He goes home today to recover. Then gets one last surgery on July 6 to install the batteries.

Dad has Parkinson's...has had it for about 10 years. Lots of stiffness, not too bad with tremors. So he was accepted for Deep Brain Stimulation...in which they implant two electrodes into some subhypothalamic region. They get hooked up to batteries, and the electrodes should help to stimulate some nerves that have stopped working. Supposed to really improve things.

He'll have to stay another week in the hospital sometime later in July while they coordinate his meds with the stimulation. Nevertheless, the worst is over.
